Through my university nursing training and my practice in hospitals, I have witnessed the huge amount of waste medical facilities throw away. I've been thinking seriously about what I can do about this issue. While researching, I learned that climate change harms people's health and that the medical field emits more greenhouse gases than the aviation industry. I wanted to do something I could do, so I started the project. In the medical field, nurses have many opportunities to handle garbage. Therefore, I believe that nurses play a very important role in this issue. On the other hand, the ICN‘s “Fundamental Responsibilities of Nurses” includes: It covers three areas: to promote health, prevent illness, and restore health.
In response to the fact that "medical care," which exists to protect people's lives and health, is causing climate change, I have been working to find out what I can do, even in a future nursing profession.
SPRING MEDICAL CHANGE was created as part of the Nomachi Accelerator Program. The program is sponsored by TENJO KANAZAWA, a startup incubation organization run in partnership with Kanazawa City.
At SPRING MEDICAL EXCHANGE, I have focused on "Waste" generated in medical practice, and have conducted various activities such as inspecting industrial waste companies, interviewing university teachers, and attending professional meetings. Please take a look at this article, which summarizes what I learned.
